I am a retired electrical engineer living in Yadkin County, down in the flatlands. I’ve lived in North Carolina since 1993 with my partner, Sue. A long-time member of the Piedmont Hiking & Outing Club, I’ve hiked with them all over the state. My interests have shifted from straightforward hiking on trails to exploring all the hidden stuff off trails. Our local state parks–Hanging Rock, Pilot Mountain, and Stone Mountain–have a lot of land and a few trails. There is a lot of history out there that’s slowly being reclaimed by nature and I like to explore it while it’s still here. I’m a long-time member of Friends of Sauratown Mountains and lead member hikes to some of these places. As a member and former board member of Piedmont Land Conservancy, preserving and conserving lands for resource protection and public access is important to me. The last few years have shown us all that public outdoor spaces are critical for our health.
