I currently reside in Pisgah Forest after retiring from the United States Coast Guard where I was a ship driver and human resource specialist. I also developed a policy for the protection of marine life in the Living Marine Resources program. While I grew up in New York, my 43 years of military service had me stationed all over the country and many parts of the world. I had the opportunity to travel nearly all the oceans on the planet, where I acquired a love and appreciation of our natural world (although I attribute some of my appreciation from watching Jacques Cousteau on TV). Now fully retired, I am pursuing my passion of understanding our natural world, birding, hiking, cycling, nature photography (I love taking pictures of nature’s small vignettes), and exploring the beauty of North Carolina—especially our waterfalls. There is nothing like sitting at a waterfall in the early morning listening to the musical orchestra being created by the sound of the water and the nature around it. I have two children and three grandchildren. My wife, Whitney, is a certified mountain bike skills instructor. I am honored to be part of Waterfall Keepers of North Carolina!
